Autumnal
Autumn is a time for truth,
when we see past seasons clear:
spring's long-neutered, likewise youth,
hedges grin a gap-toothed sneer...
Are old walls still weather-proof?
Rummage out your winter gear.
As the glass falls faster, we're
stalked by something like a wolf -
mangy, but of sharper tooth -
call it 'cold' or call it 'fear'?
